The COST DeWaTra (CA23159) Work Group (WG) 4 webinar titled “Sustainable Shipping Beyond Wind and Solar: Alternative Renewable Solutions for Energy Efficiency” will take place on May 6, 2026, Wednesday, 16:00-17:30 (CET).
The webinar will explore alternative renewable solutions that can contribute to energy efficiency in sustainable shipping, going beyond conventional wind and solar approaches. The session will bring together experts from Chalmers University of Technology, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and Universidad de Oviedo to discuss renewable energy contributions to ship energy efficiency, en-route energy sources, waste energy recovery, carbon management, and waste heat to power solutions for LNG tankers.
The programme includes the following presentations:
“WG4 Brief Update: Renewable energy contributions to ship energy efficiency”
Jonas W. Ringsberg, WG4 leader, Head of the Division of Marine Technology, Chalmers University of Technology
“A Taxonomy of En-Route Energy Sources for Maritime Systems”
Tibor Cinkler, Department of Telecommunications and Artificial Intelligence, Budapest University of Technology and Economics
Co-authors: Jonas W. Ringsberg, Alfonso Díaz-Secades, Attila R. Imre
“Boosting GHG Abatement in Shipping through Waste Energy Recovery and Carbon Management”
Alfonso Díaz Secades, Escuela Superior de la Marina Civil de Gijón, Universidad de Oviedo
Co-authors: Aitor Nicolás Fernández Álvarez, Raquel Martínez Martínez, Pablo A. Rico Lázaro, Jonas W. Ringsberg, C. Guedes Soares
“Waste heat to power solutions for engines for LNG tankers”
Attila R. Imre, Head of the Department of Energy Engineering, Budapest University of Technology and Economics
The webinar will be held online via Microsoft Teams.
